Open the door to Salvage One and one of my favorite wedding images hangs in a display case. Walking in to the venue makes me feel right at home. If there’s one spot in Chicago that defines the “Michael Novo style”, this is it.

Salvage One is both a venue and a vintage store where you can find eclectic oddities from yesteryear. It’s a world of its own with various sets and scenes that are different from each other yet work together. The venue is ideal for brides and grooms looking for something that’s a bit outside the norm. One word of caution is that Salvage One books up far in advance so it’s great for couples planning a year or two out. If you want to see more of the venue, check out Michael and Whit’s wedding.

After a couple hours of wandering from one set to another we packed up and wrapped the day at Lickity Split Chicago. This frozen custard and candy store is like stepping back in time to childhood. As the custard churns out fresh from the machine behind the counter, your eyes wander to the variety of confectionery treats. Pop Rocks, Jaw Breakers and countless jars filled with every type of candy run the gamut. If those are too mainstream for you, there’s always Lester’s Ranch Dressing or Bacon flavored sodas. Next time you’re in Uptown, stop in for some attention to that sweet tooth.
