When I was in high school, I actually never had a senior portrait session. In fact they are not as popular in the Northern Illinois / Chicago area as they are in most other parts of the country. In fact when you say “senior portrait” around this area, many folks assume you’re talking about senior citizens. But high school senior portrait sessions are an amazing opportunity to put together a concept shoot for your son or daughter that truly defines the adult that they are growing into. When we met with Corasha, the easy part was deciding to photograph on a beach in Highland Park. The next part was to come up with a concept.
After chatting with mom she told me that Corasha had recently been to the prom and played the drums. So the thought process began. Sprinkle in the drums, maybe add the dress, carry the two, shake and serve up in a grungy location on the beach! And so an idea was born for her portrait session! We met a couple hours out from sunset on a cool and breezy summer day and kicked off on the drums. Corasha was a bit hesitant at first since it’s very difficult to picture in your mind how the images are turning out when you have so many little studio lights set up all over the place. But after I showed her the first few frames, her smile kicked in and we never looked back.
